Superintendent’s Message to Families

Dear MPS Families and Staff,

Over the past week, there has been a small increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases among our school population.

Whenever there is a positive case, our Director of Nursing and our school nurses, in conjunction with the Malden Board of Heath, work collaboratively to conduct contact tracing. This ensures that all close contacts of the individual who tested positive have been identified to either quarantine or isolate. It also establishes an appropriate timeline to return to school.

It is important to note that during the entire year, our contact tracing indicates that there has been zero in-school transmission of the virus. Due to our need to protect student and staff confidentiality and meet HIPAA requirements, we cannot publicly share details about specific cases.

I would like to especially thank Patti Tramondozzi, MPS Director of Nursing, for her exceptional leadership and integrity as she and her team work to keep our students, staff, and families safe. I also want to thank the Malden Public Health Department for assisting with our contact tracing protocols.

We ask that our students and staff continue to keep up the good work when it comes to wearing masks, social distancing, and following all our other health and safety measures. It is through these important efforts that we will be able to continue in-person learning this school year.

As always, thank you for your support and understanding. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s principal.

Sincerely,

John Oteri, Superintendent
Malden Public Schools
