Summer Reading Grades K-5
The Malden Public Schools’ summer reading list is your ticket to adventurous travels through books. We hope you and your family will read about other countries, cultures, and people all over the world.
We are always seeking to provide students with multiple means to demonstrate their learning. Therefore, this year, instead of requiring students to fill out a Reading Log/Calendar each day, students will have numerous options to demonstrate their reading progress, including ‘Reading Star Charts’, Reading ‘BINGO’, and a ‘Redefining’ Reading Chart! Every student will be provided with a stapled packet of the potential activities they can complete from their school before they leave for the summer vacation. PDF versions of these different reading activity choices are also posted on this webpage. Additionally, the Malden Public Library will have hard copies of each activity sheet in their Children’s Room.
Students who are working on completing any activity can bring their sheet to any of our Summer MPS or Title I events (specific events TBD) and receive a prize. Furthermore, the incoming class at each grade level with the most number of completed activity sheets will receive a pizza party from Pisa Pizza when they return in the Fall.
We encourage you to check out books from the Malden Public Library to support your student.

Summer Reading Grades 6-8
Summer is a great time to reconnect with reading for pleasure. The Malden Public Schools hopes students use books this summer to help build a habit of lifelong literacy. For summer reading, students may choose any book they would like to read. The provided lists are recommended books, however students may also choose a book that is not on this list. After reading a book, students should complete the summer reading assignment. We hope that students will read many books this summer, but for the summer reading assignment, students only need to read one.
