Message from the Superintendent

Dear Malden Families, Caregivers, and Staff,

On Monday, March 7, 2022, the Malden School Committee voted to lift the mask mandate in the Malden Public Schools starting tomorrow. This decision was based on current data in conjunction with the Malden Board of Health. Students and staff may continue wearing masks should they need or choose to do so. We will continue to provide masks, conduct in-school COVID testing, provide home testing kits, and maintain the cleaning protocols already in place.

The safety of students and staff continues to be our priority.

Sincerely,

Superintendent Noriega-Murphy

Mini Writer’s Den

Dear Parents of Middle School Students,

We are excited to invite Malden Public Schools middle school students to participate in the 2022 Mini Writers’ Den after-school program. Students who participated in the Mini Writers’ Den in the past told us it was awesome, and they couldn’t wait for each week! Here’s a sample of what students wrote about during the 2018 Mini Writers’ Den.

Students will have the opportunity to have fun with creative writing, meet other Malden students and participate in themed programs. As an example, in the comic book writing session, we will discuss the elements that make comic books, graphic novels, and manga so awesome, interview an aspiring comic book writer – and brainstorm, write, and draw!

The schedule for the 2022 Mini Writers’ Den program is shown below. Sessions will be held on Zoom at 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on each date. Students may register for multiple sessions.

Session Dates  Registration deadline
(or when session becomes full)
Comic book writing!  March 9, 16, and 23 First come, first served
Song & rap writing!  March 30, April 6 and 13 March 23
Food writing!  April 27, May 4 and 11 April 20
Sports writing!  May 18, 25, and June 1 May 11

In addition to the dates above, students and their families are invited to a culminating event on June 3, at 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Malden High School. Transportation will be provided for the students to Malden High and home afterwards if needed.

You can REGISTER for the Mini Writers’ Den HERE.

Malden Reads is sponsoring this program in collaboration with the Malden Public Schools and Tufts University. Malden Reads is program connecting the community through reading. The Mini Writers’ Den is supported by a grant from the Malden Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Sincerely,

Malden Reads and the Malden Public Schools
