Dear Community Member,

The Malden Racial Equity Commission would like you to attend a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Town Hall Meeting on February 7th, 2024, at City Hall from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. As Malden continues to grow and evolve, ensuring that everyone feels welcome, respected, and has equal opportunities is more important than ever. This town hall meeting is an opportunity for us to come together as a community to learn, share, and build a more inclusive future for Malden. The town hall objectives are to:

Increase Awareness: Learn about the significance of DEI in building a stronger community.
Encourage Participation: Contribute your perspectives and experiences to foster open dialogue.
Communicate Importance: Understand the critical role of DEI in fostering unity, understanding, and progress within Malden.

Event Details:
Date: February 7th, 2024
Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Location: City Hall of Malden, 215 Pleasant Street, Malden, MA 02148

Discussion Questions:
Community Engagement and Accessibility: How can we ensure that DEI initiatives and resources are easily accessible and effectively communicated to all residents of Malden, including those in traditionally underserved neighborhoods?
Preserving Cultural Heritage: In a city with rich cultural diversity, how can we actively preserve and celebrate the cultural heritage of different communities in Malden while promoting a sense of unity?
Language Access in Public Services: What steps can be taken to enhance language access in public services to accommodate the linguistic diversity of Malden’s residents, ensuring that language is not a barrier to essential services?
Equitable Community Development: As Malden undergoes development and revitalization, how can we ensure that the benefits are distributed equitably, preventing gentrification and displacement while promoting inclusivity in the city’s growth?
Youth Involvement in Decision-Making: To empower the next generation, how can we actively involve and amplify the voices of Malden’s youth in shaping policies and initiatives related to DEI, ensuring their perspectives are considered in community decision-making processes?

Get Involved:
There are many ways you can get involved in the Malden Racial Equity Commission’s work! You can attend the DEI Town Hall Meeting on February 7th, share your ideas with the commission at kharling@CITYOFMALDEN.ORG, and follow us on social media for updates and events. GMAACC YOUTH PROGRAMS

APPLY AT bit.ly/gmaaccyouth24
APPLICATIONS DUE:  FRIDAY 9/29

YOUTH ORGANIZING GROUP (YOG)
YOG is a dedicated space to engage Youth Leaders on the ground in Malden’s community through a lens of educational justice and equity. Issues such as school days off for Asian holidays, ethnic studies curriculum, and local youth civic engagement could be potentially addressed depending on the interest of GMAACC Youth Leaders. Youth Leaders will be given the tools and resources needed for student-led campaigns to achieve a more equitable/culturally inclusive school environment at Malden Public Schools.

YOUTH PROJECT ON ASIAN WELLBEING (YPAW)
YPAW is a dedicated space for Asian/Asian American-identifying students to explore mental health and well-being. We will reflect on our own experiences and learn how to educate ourselves and other Asian/Asian American students on ways to initiate conversations on mental and emotional wellbeing within their social circles and promote healthy coping mechanisms. This year, YPAW’s focus will be to facilitate a series of discussion circles that serve as safer and brave spaces for Malden’s Asian/Asian American youth to discuss mental and emotional wellness with each other.
