November/December Updates
SEL/MH
LSA has been approved to begin the SEL
The SEL & Mental Health Academy is a project funded by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to help schools and districts across the Commonwealth develop multi-tiered systems of SEL and mental health supports—classroom instruction, small-group support, and individualized care—that are effective, culturally sensitive, and sustainable.
Over a three-year period, teams from selected districts participate in annual institutes combined with ongoing professional development, coaching, and customized technical assistance. These supports are designed to help schools integrate social and emotional learning (SEL) and mental health with their current MTSS frameworks, and align new programming with existing priorities, systems, and practices.
The Academy addresses these areas of content:
Project Slice
Recently a team of teachers in multiple grades attended Project Slice. This was professional development that allowed teachers to experience Project Based Learning. Like an entry event for a project, a Project Slice carries a lot of emotional weight and creates a genuine “need to know” energy about PBL and how to make it happen for all students.
Art Supplies
Last Week Linden distributed art supplies to all students. If you didn’t pick them up for your child you can contact Linden and let us know when you would like to drop in for a pick up.

Good Evening Linden Families.
This is principal Ray Garcia with an important announcement for the upcoming school year. The Malden Public School district is still working on the reopening plan for the 2020-2021 school year. While we do not know exactly what this fall will look like for Linden, we do know that health and safety will be a top priority. We understand that COVID-19 has created health risks and financial challenges that make shopping difficult. For this reason we are considering a temporary change in the uniform policy for the 2020-2021 school year.
The Linden School Site Council would like your feedback before voting on this question. Please let us know if you would like uniforms to be required or optional by completing the survey below
For the 2020-2021 school year I want:
Uniforms to be required of all students. (All students will wear a uniform.)
Uniforms to be optional for all students “You choose.” (Each family will be able to choose if they want to wear a uniform or not wear a uniform.)

The survey is open now and will close Wednesday evening after the forum.
The potential policy change is being discussed as a temporary measure by the School Site Council for the 2020-2021 school year only due to the difficulties and limited access to uniforms and laundry facilities amid COVID-19. Please enter any additional comments you would like to share with the Linden School Site Council on the survey regarding uniforms.
We will also hold a forum on Wednesday July 29th, at 6:00 pm for families to voice their concerns and opinions about uniforms. We understand that families have questions and concerns about the start of the school year but going to limit the discussion to uniforms only. The link to the forum will be posted on the Linden school website and the Linden Facebook page.
